Baton Rouge – New federal funding is now available to help existing community clinics in the Greater New Orleans area expand their services, open satellite clinics, stay open longer hours and hire more medical staff.

Baton Rouge – Governor Kathleen Babineaux Blanco today announced that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has awarded $161 million to Louisiana to improve health care in areas affected by Hurricane Katrina.
Baton Rouge – Over the past week, the Department of Health and Hospitals issued checks to 31 more hospitals that cared for uninsured patients last year in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. (Earlier payments were made to East and West Jefferson hospitals.) With these latest payments, DHH met its mid-February goal of issuing extra funding to hospitals that qualified because they treated higher numbers of uninsured patients.
Registration is now open for the Lighten Up Louisiana statewide competition for 2007. The overwhelmingly successful program encourages Louisiana citizens to get healthy by focusing on making better food choices and increasing physical activity. This time around, both the adult and kids’ versions will run at the same time. In addition, individuals as well as teams can now join the competition.
