For the second consecutive year, Louisiana scored a perfect 100 on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) evaluation of the state's public health emergency preparedness and response capabilities. Louisiana and seven other states scored 100 two years in a row. Louisiana's public health laboratories also received exemplary marks. The CDC's "Public Health Preparedness: 2011 State-by-State Update on Laboratory Capabilities and Response Readiness Planning" report released today evaluates the state over a three-year period, from 2007-2010.
The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals has confirmed one new human case of West Nile Virus, bringing this year's total to nine. The new case is from Calcasieu Parish. This case is reported in DHH's weekly Louisiana Arbovirus Surveillance Summary which can be found in the Surveillance Reports Section of the DHH website.
A proposed settlement has been reached in the above-referenced federal Multi-District Litigation lawsuit against Interior/Exterior Building Supply, LP (“InEx”) and other named defendants. The proposed settlement affects all persons or entities with possible claims (against the named defendants) related to Chinese Drywall sold, marketed, or distributed by InEx. Affected persons wishing to opt-out of or object to the proposed settlement must notify Plaintiff’s Lead Counsel and Counsel for InEx in writing by December 18, 2011.
BATON ROUGE - Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals Secretary Bruce D. Greenstein has issued a cease and desist order to the Gentilly Medical Clinic for Women, requiring the facility, which has been repeatedly cited for health and safety violations since January 2010 and has been under two license revocations, to immediately halt operations.
The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals has confirmed four new human cases of West Nile Virus, bringing this year’s total to eight. The four new cases are from Washington, Vernon and Tangipahoa parishes and include Louisiana’s first cases this year of neuroinvasive disease, the more serious form of West Nile Virus.
BATON ROUGE – The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals and the Louisiana Emergency Response Network (LERN) have joined forces to help protect young athletes from the dire consequences of head injuries and concussions.

The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals (DHH), Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), and Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) are working with local officials in Washington and St. Tammany parishes to conduct a new round of precautionary testing of a sample of private water wells along the Pearl River. Temple Inland agreed to support the state’s request to begin precautionary testing earlier today.
