  DHH Officials to Discuss H1N1 Vaccine Availability, Ordering, and Distribution Process

  The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals today confirmed three deaths in the state from H1N1: an adult female from DHH Region I, the Greater New Orleans area, an adult male from DHH Region III, the seven-parish area including Houma and Thibodaux, and an adult female from DHH Region IV, consisting of the seven-parish area surrounding Lafayette. There have been a total of 14 H1N1-related deaths statewide.

  DHH Confirms Arrival of Limited Doses of H1N1 Vaccine

  The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals today confirmed that the first doses of the state’s initial allotment of H1N1 vaccine—26,000 doses of nasal spray—have begun arriving at pediatric providers across the state who chose to provide H1N1 vaccine and are ready to administer it to their patients.

  Seasonal Flu Vaccines to be Available for High-Risk Groups at Parish Health Units

  Louisianians that are at high-risk for seasonal flu will be able to receive their seasonal flu shot beginning next week at parish health units across the state.

  DHH and LHSAA team up to beat H1N1

  The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals (DHH) and the Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSAA) are teaming up to help reduce the spread of H1N1, also known as the swine flu. Beginning this month public service announcements regarding H1N1 vaccination and hygiene will be announced over the public address systems at high school football games and other sporting events throughout the state.

  The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals (DHH) today introduced Dr. Rodney Wise as Medical Director for the Louisiana Medicaid Program.

  DHH Confirms Three Additional Deaths from H1N1 Flu

  The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals today confirmed three deaths in the state from H1N1 in the past week: a female child and an adult male from DHH Region I, the Greater New Orleans area, and an adult male from DHH Region IV, consisting of the seven-parish Lafayette area. There have been a total of 11 H1N1-related deaths statewide.

  DHH Secretary Alan Levine Names Anthony Keck as Deputy Secretary

  Today, Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals Secretary Alan Levine named Anthony Keck as DHH deputy secretary, effective Oct. 14, 2009. Keck was formerly Governor Bobby Jindal’s health and social services policy advisor.

  DHH Confirms Eighth Death from H1N1 Flu

  The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals today confirmed that a resident of DHH Region 3, the Houma/Thibodaux area, has died from complications related to the 2009 H1N1 flu. The individual was an adult male, and the state’s eighth death related to H1N1 flu.

  DHH Expands Access for Flu Vaccines

  The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals has opened online registration for health care providers interested in administering the 2009 H1N1 flu vaccine, expected to be available initially in limited quantities in October. Also, State Health Officer Jimmy Guidry, M.D., has issued an order and protocol allowing Louisiana Board of Pharmacy-certified pharmacists to join doctors, hospitals, and local health departments in administering both seasonal and 2009 H1N1 flu vaccines. These important steps will help keep more people healthy, ensure more effective provision of influenza immunizations, and allow the state to better manage the 2009 flu season.

  DHH Confirms Death from H1N1 Flu

  The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals today confirmed that a resident of DHH Region 7, the Shreveport area, has died from complications related to the 2009 H1N1 flu. The individual was an adult male, and the state’s seventh death related to H1N1 flu.
