BATON ROUGE – Today, Governor Bobby Jindal announced that he signed HB 879 into law to compensate the state’s hospitals for hurricane-related losses over the last few years and to cover costs for treating uninsured patients, also called “uncompensated care.” The Governor officially signed the bill yesterday.
BATON ROUGE—The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals will close its Medicaid Office in Allen Parish when the lease expires in July 2009. All Medicaid staff currently at the office will be placed in local public agencies or use a telecommuting program to process applications. The office closure is expected to have little impact on Medicaid applicants and enrollees in the area, as the overwhelming majority of interaction with the public is by phone, by mail, or through outreach and out stationing.
BATON ROUGE—With the H1NI flu (swine flu) virus outbreak declared as a stage six pandemic by the World Health Organization, state health officials are ramping up efforts to prepare for the possibility of a more widespread pandemic striking Louisiana.

BATON ROUGE— Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals officials announced today that 11 more of the state’s probable cases of H1N1 influenza (swine flu) have been confirmed by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
BATON ROUGE— Two of the state’s suspected cases of H1N1 influenza (swine flu) in Lafayette Parish have been confirmed today by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, reported officials from the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals.
BATON ROUGE—In accordance with U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines, the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals has changed its guidance for health care providers and the public on who should see a doctor, get tested and receive treatment for H1N1 influenza (swine flu).
BATON ROUGE— DHH officials are now investigating seven new suspected cases of the H1N1 (swine flu) virus, including five cases in Lafayette Parish, one case in Ascension Parish, and one in St. Landry Parish. This brings the total number of suspected cases currently under investigation in Louisiana to 34. None of the 34 cases are in the hospital.
BATON ROUGE— State officials are now investigating six new suspected cases of the H1N1 (swine flu) virus, including three cases in Lafourche Parish, one case in Lafayette Parish, one in Iberia Parish and one in St. Martin Parish. This brings the total number of suspected cases currently under investigation in Louisiana to 27. None of the 27 cases are in the hospital.
