Baton Rouge – The Louisiana WIC Program wishes to inform recipients that Texas food instruments issued to Louisiana hurricane evacuees or to Texas residents who have evacuated to Louisiana cannot be redeemed at Louisiana WIC vendors.
Baton Rouge – State health officials have issued an update to conditions of water systems in Louisiana that were seriously impacted by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Boil orders have been lifted for some parish water systems. The boil orders, which were issued after a loss of pressure occurred in those systems, have been lifted since testing showed the water does not contain unsafe levels of bacteria and is safe to drink and use.
At this time, state officials, working in conjunction with coroners from local parishes have confirmed 923 deaths.
Baton Rouge – The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals has developed a management plan in anticipation of the hatching of mosquitoes and flies due to the massive flooding in the area. Mosquito control is needed to protect public health from nuisances and diseases transmitted by mosquitoes, as well as flies.
Lake Charles – State health officials advise residents of the Lake Charles area who evacuated before Hurricane Rita to avoid permanently returning to the city and repopulating the area at this time because of public health concerns in the area.
Baton Rouge – Recent news accounts have reported the Department of Health and Hospitals has been overpaid by FEMA by nearly $340 million, and that DHH has returned that overpayment.
At this time, state officials, working in conjunction with coroners from local parishes have confirmed 896 deaths.
Baton Rouge --- As hotels, restaurants, grocery stores and other businesses proceed with plans to reopen in the New Orleans area, state health officials advise citizens intending to return to their homes and/or visit these establishments as well as business owners that they should do so with attention to public health.
Baton Rouge – The Department of Health and Hospitals – Office of Public Health parish health unit in Jefferson Parish will begin offering childhood vaccinations and a limited number of adult vaccinations on Thursday, September 29. Immunizations will be administered to children and adults based on recommendations by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Baton Rouge – The bodies of victims of Hurricane Katrina that have been recovered will be returned to their families as soon as they are identified, according to the release procedures developed by the State of Louisiana and the Department of Health and Hospitals.
