The COVID-19 vaccines are the best protection against these and other strains of SARS-CoV-2, including variants that may spread more easily or cause more severe disease.
The affected waterways are Bayou Chene and Bayou Lacassine, Bayou Nezpique, Big Alabama Bayou, Little Alabama Bayou, Calcasieu River Drainage Basin and Old River (Niblett Bluff in Calcasieu Parish).
In an effort to ensure the most accurate reporting of deaths that are attributable to the recent storms, the Louisiana Department of Health will only report a death after it has been confirmed as storm-related by the parish coroner.
In the letter, pediatricians caring for children throughout Louisiana make the case that the vaccines are the best way for this age group to safely return to school and to summer activities like camp, and vital for the protection of families.
Gov. John Bel Edwards has issued a State of Emergency Declaration due to the ongoing severe weather impacting Southwest Louisiana. Numerous Flash Flood Warnings and Tornado Warnings have already been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS). Additional rains are expected across the state for the next several days.
No LANG-operated sites will be open in Region 3 (Houma-Thibodaux), Region 4 (Acadiana), Region 6 (Cenla), Region 7 (Northwest Louisiana) and Region 9 (North Shore).

"Today is a great day and a clear sign that all three COVID vaccines currently available are not only safe but extremely effective at protecting us from the virus and helping us return to the normal way of life we have all been working hard to achieve," said Gov. Edwards.
Louisianans ages 12 and up can now receive the COVID-19 vaccine, following the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) action late Wednesday formally recommending the use of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for this age group.
