The Department of Health and Hospitals today confirms 15 new human cases of West Nile virus, bringing Louisiana’s total for the current year to 190. Of all cases reported to date, 88 are the more serious form of West Nile virus that infects the brain and spinal cord.
Dr. Susan Berry, medical director for Children’s Special Health Services with the Department of Health and Hospitals, has been named administrator for the program. The federally-funded program is within DHH’s Office of Public Health.
The Department of Health and Hospitals today confirms 14 new human cases of West Nile virus, putting Louisiana’s total for the current year to 172. Of all cases reported to date, 83 are the more serious form of West Nile virus that infects the brain and spinal cord.
For a two-week period beginning Dec.1, 2006, Louisiana oyster harvesters can be permitted to move live oysters from certain portions of the Vermillion Bay Public Oyster Seed Grounds, located near the southwest pass at Marsh Island, and transplant them to private leases.
