Baton Rouge – State health officials have issued an update to conditions of Louisiana water systems that were seriously impacted by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Boil orders have been lifted for some parish water systems, including several in Calcasieu Parish and for the city of Lake Charles.

Boil orders have been lifted for some parish water systems. The boil orders, which were issued after a loss of pressure occurred in those systems, have been lifted since testing showed the water does not contain unsafe levels of bacteria and is safe to drink and use.

Following Hurricane Rita, the health units in Acadia and Vermilion parishes are temporarily closed. However, health units in the following parishes remain open:
Lafayette – The Department of Health and Hospitals has partnered with various medical organizations to staff a primary health care clinic in Lafayette to treat patients from Hurricanes Rita and Katrina. The clinic is located at the Lafayette Parish Health Unit, 220 West Willow Street, Building A, Lafayette; 337-262-5616.
Baton Rouge – State health officials are advising residents in all areas impacted by Hurricane Rita to boil or disinfect water before drinking. This advisory is for communities in which water systems lost pressure due to electrical power outages.
Baton Rouge – Because of the continual threat of tropical storms and hurricanes, many Louisiana residents purchase individual, gas-powered generators to provide power to their homes in the event of an outage. However, every year, many die or are hospitalized because of improper and unsafe usage of generators.
Baton Rouge --- Due to potential weather threats from Hurricane Rita, the state Department of Health and Hospitals wishes to remind citizens that if they experience water pressure loss during the storm, their system is considered to be on a blanket boil advisory until health officials notify the public that the water is safe for consumption.
