In accordance with the Louisiana Administrative Procedure Act, R.S. 49:950 et seq., the state health officer, acting through the Louisiana Department of Health, Office of Public Health has adopted LAC 48:I.Chapter 6, Uses and Disclosures of Information for Public Health Emergency Preparedness Activities. R.S. 40:4 and R.S. 40:5 authorize the state health officer acting through the Office of Public Health of the Louisiana Department of Health to prepare, promulgate, and enforce rules and regulations related to public health in the state of Louisiana.

In accordance with R.S. 49:968, the 2nd Legislative Oversight Committee Report for the final Registration of Foods, Drugs, Cosmetics and Prophylactic Devices - Regulatory Framework Oversight rule has been submitted to the applicable oversight committees. This oversight report was delivered to the relevant oversight committees on February 7, 2020.
Under the authority of R.S. 40:4 and 40:5, and in accordance with R.S. 49:950 et seq., the Administrative Procedure Act, the state health officer, acting through the Louisiana Department of Health, Office of Public Health (LDH-OPH), has amended Part VII (Dairy Products Regulations) of Title 51 (Public Health—Sanitary Code). These amendments update sampling requirements for certain dairy product businesses that freeze or partially freeze and repackage frozen desserts made from frozen dessert mixes that were pasteurized, ultra-pasteurized or aseptically processed at another plant for wholesale.
The Louisiana Office of Public Health is investigating an outbreak of norovirus in the Lake Charles area that appears to be spreading in the Calcasieu and Vernon Parishes.

To better assist Medicaid members in completing renewal documents, as of mid-January the Louisiana Department of Health has begun including pre-filled forms in renewal letters that are sent to members each month.
While the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has confirmed that five patients in the United States have been diagnosed with 2019 Novel Coronavirus (2019 nCoV), there are currently no confirmed cases of the virus in Louisiana. The CDC says that all of these patients have traveled from China. Health officials in Louisiana and other states are taking preliminary steps to prevent the spread of the virus.
Gov. John Bel Edwards on Friday announced Stephen Russo as the interim secretary of the Louisiana Department of Health, replacing Dr. Rebekah Gee, who resigned earlier this month. The Governor hopes to name a permanent LDH secretary in the coming weeks.
