DHH and DCFS Urge Parents, Caregivers to Keep Children Safe near Water
With many in Louisiana retreating to the water to cool off as summer temperatures rise, the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals (DHH) and the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) urge parents and caregivers to keep children safe in and around water this summer by ensuring that young children are properly supervised.

RFP for STD/HIV Services
The purpose of this RFP is to solicit proposals from qualified proposers that provide the following activities related to the prevention of STD and HIV infections, the provision of services for HIV-infected persons as well as clinical services and treatment for persons infected with syphilis, chlamydia and/or gonorrhea, and to monitor the STD and HIV epidemics over time.

DHH Encourages Louisianians to Get HIV Tested
Louisiana had the nation's fourth highest AIDS case rate in 2010, and Baton Rouge and New Orleans were first and fifth, respectively, among U.S. cities in AIDS case rates. These high rankings emphasize the necessity for Louisianians to take action by getting tested for HIV.

RFP for Nursing Services to Adults with Psychiatric Illnesses at Central Louisiana State Hospital
The purpose of this RFP is to solicit proposals from qualified proposers to provide supplemental certified nursing assistants (CNA) and registered nursing (RN) staff to provide nursing services to adults with a psychiatric illness. Registered Nurse nursing services average 8-16 hours per month and Certified Nursing Assistant nursing services average 1200 hours per week. A contract is necessary to provide qualified registered nursing and certified nursing assistant staff in sufficient quantity to meet the clinical needs of our clients, and to maintain the resources necessary to efficiently and effectively deliver professional nursing care of a quality consistent with the community and the national nursing care standards. The contractor shall uphold the policies and procedures that are congruent with the mission and goals of Central Louisiana State Hospital, the standards of professional practice, regulatory agencies, and the Nurse Practice Act.

DHH Reports 2012’s First Case of West Nile Virus
The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals has reported the state's first case of West Nile virus in a human in 2012. The case was confirmed June 21 in St. Bernard Parish, and was asymptomatic, which means the individual had no sign of illness.

The hot and humid weekends are here, and as we move into summer, Louisiana families are already enjoying pools, lakes, rivers and beaches to cool off and enjoy fun in the sun. Swimming and water sports provide a great way to get exercise in the summer months, but things can quickly turn tragic and people can become sick if they don’t know the risks and take precautions. Extended sun exposure without sunscreen can also be damaging or deadly.
