Baton Rouge – State health officials have issued an update to conditions of water systems in Southeast Louisiana that were seriously impacted by Hurricane Katrina. Boil orders have been lifted for some parish water systems.
Baton Rouge – The Department of Health and Hospitals has experienced an enormous response from medical volunteers across the country to assist in Louisiana’s recovery efforts following Hurricane Katrina.
Baton Rouge –Dialysis services in the New Orleans area have been greatly disrupted by the recent events surrounding Hurricane Katrina. Patients on dialysis must continue to get treatment. If your usual dialysis unit is closed, you should call 504-338-4267 or 985-537-6903 to arrange treatment.
Baton Rouge – Following Hurricane Katrina and the mass evacuation of the Greater New Orleans area, many residents are displaced and cannot access necessary social services such as counseling, substance abuse treatment or therapeutic services for people with developmental disabilities. The Department of Health and Hospitals has teams in place to address these needs and connect people immediately to the necessary services.
Baton Rouge – In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, state officials are suspending all activities related to the Louisiana BEACH Monitoring Program through Oct. 31, the end of swim season.

Mosquito control is needed to protect public health from nuisances and diseases transmitted by mosquitoes, as well as flies.
Baton Rouge - The Department of Health and Hospitals has CLOSED all oyster harvest areas located from the Louisiana-Mississippi State Line to the Atchafalaya River effective IMMEDIATELY, today, Tuesday, August 30, 2005. This closure affects those harvest grounds located in Areas 1- 23.

This toll-free number has been established as an information and support resource for individuals and families who believe they have a family member who may have perished due to the hurricane.

The boil orders, which were issued after a loss of pressure occurred in those systems, have been lifted since testing showed the water does not contain unsafe levels of bacteria and is safe to drink and use.
