This system ensures prompt, effective, and unimpeded service by appropriately educated and licensed Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Practitioners and licensed EMS Providers to all residents and visitors of the state.

The Louisiana Bureau of EMS is responsible for the overall planning, coordination, licensing, and regulation of Louisiana’s EMS system. Adopted in 2019, the Bureau of EMS Policy & Procedure Manual allows the bureau to coordinate, develop, improve, and maintain a comprehensive and dynamic medical emergency services system for the state that will ensure prompt, effective, and unimpeded service by appropriately educated and licensed EMS practitioners to all residents and visitors of the state.

Effective November 1, 2023, the Bureau of Emergency Medical Services began utilizing the new Louisiana State Police (LSP) criminal history request and reporting system (LAPS). Students/practitioners will be able to request a criminal history report from one of approximately 60 sites throughout the state and many sites across the United States. Reports will normally be available for review by the Bureau of EMS within 72 hours of the completed criminal history report request.
