  Governor Blanco Announces 2006 Sheltering Plan

  In the most recent of a series of emergency preparedness announcements, today Governor Kathleen Babineaux Blanco activated a four-step sheltering plan for the 2006 hurricane season. "We all pray this year will be a hurricane-free season for Louisiana," said Governor Blanco. "However, we stand prepared for several evacuations and are doing everything in our power to ensure a hurricane-safe season. That is why we have strengthened our sheltering capacity as part of our commitment to implement lessons learned from Katrina and Rita."

  Fewer Than 1,000 Missing After Hurricane Katrina

  Baton Rouge --- After more than six months of solid detective work and more than 13,000 reports of people missing after Hurricane Katrina, staff at the Family Assistance Center celebrated an important milestone Tuesday: fewer than 1,000 people remain missing.

  Final Meeting of Health Care Reform Panel to be Held

  Gov. Kathleen Babineaux Blanco’s Health Care Reform Panel will hold its final regularly scheduled meeting on Thursday, March 30. The meeting, which will take place at the State Capitol in Baton Rouge, will mark the end of the two-year process that brought together national health care experts, state legislative and government leaders, business leaders, and a representative from each of the nine health care regions of Louisiana.

  Baton Rouge – Louisiana has gone from last place nationwide to 48th in the 2006 Morgan Quitno State Health Care Rankings. The state improved on the majority of factors considered when assigning these rankings.

  DHH Reports Katrina-Related Milestones

  Baton Rouge --- The Department of Health and Hospitals today reports two milestones have been achieved at the Victim Identification Center in Carville. According to Dr. Louis Cataldie, state medical examiner, the number of unidentified human remains is now less than 100, with one of the newly identified being the body of Mrs. Ethel Herbert.

  Louisiana Childhood Immunization Rates Improve in 2005

  Childhood immunization rates at Louisiana parish health units increased for 2005. Based on data from parish health unit assessments, 66 percent of children ages 19 – 35 months were up to date on their immunizations. This is an increase from 2004, when the average was 54 percent.
