September 01, 2006 New Medical Director Hired for Florida Parishes Area

- The Department of Health and Hospitals, Office of Public Health has hired Dr. Parham Jaberi as the medical director for LDH-OPH Region 9.

In this position, Dr. Jaberi will be the public health medical official for the region, which encompasses Livingston, St. Helena, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa and Washington parishes. He will be responsible for addressing any disease and health-related concerns that arise in this area and coordinating the response with the state health officer, state epidemiologist and other OPH officials.

Dr. Jaberi received his bachelor of arts from Johns Hopkins University in May 1998 and his doctorate of medicine from the University of Maryland School of Medicine in May 2002.

Following an internship in Internal Medicine at Tulane University Health Sciences Center, he completed a Preventive Medicine residency there and obtained a master’s degree in public health from the Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. He is board-eligible in Preventive Medicine.

During his residency, Dr. Jaberi worked with OPH’s Adolescent School Health, Communicable Disease Control, Infectious Disease Epidemiology, Injury Prevention, Maternal and Child Health Programs. Most recently, he assisted LDH-OPH Region 1, the Greater New Orleans area, with emergency preparedness with focus on hurricane and pandemic flu planning.

Dr. Jaberi replaces Dr. Erin Brewer in this position. Dr. Brewer left Region 9 in 2005 to become Assistant State Health Officer and Medical Director for the LDH Office of Public Health.
