Recovered Bodies – At this time, state officials, working in conjunction with coroners from local parishes, have recovered 1,067 bodies. This is an increase from 1,062 recovered bodies reported on Oct. 27, 2005.

St. Gabriel Morgue Facility Totals:
874 – Total bodies examined at the morgue

238 – Released to families

636 – Remain at the morgue

Status of  Bodies at St. Gabriel Morgue:
238 – Released to Families

266 – Ready to be released; attempting to locate family members

  23 – Identified; awaiting autopsy

347 – Identity unknown

Released Bodies – Last week, LDH reported 197 bodies had been released to families. Today, that number has been updated to 238 released bodies (see attachment.)
224 – Storm-related deaths

 14 – Medical examiner cases not storm-related

Demographic Breakdown of the 224 Storm-Related Deaths (released):
Race: African-American - 109 bodies (48% of total), Caucasian – 105 bodies (47%), Hispanic – 6 (3%), unknown – 4 (2%).

Gender: 118 males (53%), 106 females (47%).

Parish of Residence: Jefferson – 19 (8%), Orleans – 164 (73%), Plaquemines – 2 (1%), St. Bernard – 27 (12%), unknown – 9 (4%), East Baton Rouge – 1, Washington – 1, out of state – 1 (2% combined.)
