Baton Rouge --- The ongoing process to reform health care delivery and services for the state will move forward next week, with the first meeting of the Governor’s recently appointed Health Care Reform Panel. Gov. Kathleen Babineaux Blanco announced last week the panel’s first meeting as Thursday, June 24 in New Orleans.
Baton Rouge – The Department of Health and Hospitals, Office of Public Health is investigating two cases of Salmonella illnesses. The two people are an 11-year-old male and a 48 year-old male, both from the Hammond area. The DHH investigation is to determine the source of the infection, if possible, and to determine if there is a link between the two cases.
HOUMA -- The Terrebonne Mental Health Center, previously located at 500 Legion Ave., has moved to a new location, at 106 Moss Lane, Houma, La., 70360. At the new location, staff will resume all previous services offered for both adults and children.
Baton Rouge – The Department of Health and Hospitals Office of Public Health has awarded a $2.8 million loan to the Lafayette Parish Waterworks District North Water System to help the community improve its drinking water. The loan was completed last Thursday, June 3.
Baton Rouge – When the St. Charles Parish Hospital sought financing for a recent expansion project, the hospital needed to demonstrate its economic impact on its local community. The hospital turned to the Department of Health and Hospitals for help, and the result was an economic impact study that helped the hospital secure $18.5 million.
Northwest La. Parishes – If you lost water pressure at your tap or if the water pressure was extremely low following recent storms in the area, Dr. Jimmy Guidry, State Health Officer, recommends that homeowners disinfect their water by any one of the following methods prior to consumption (including drinking, cooking, brushing teeth or preparing food):
BATON ROUGE – Officials from the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals will introduce their economic development planning tool, IMPLAN, at a news conference Friday, June 4, 10 a.m. at the St. Charles Parish Hospital in Luling.

Baton Rouge --- The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has given Louisiana a “green” rating for biopreparedness. Green is the highest rating, indicating that the state is fully prepared to distribute medications and supplies in response to a bioterrorism event or large-scale health emergency.

Baton Rouge --- The National Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve has awarded Department of Health and Hospitals employee Sue Merrill its Patriot Award. The award is meant to recognize public and private employers who support their employees who are members of the Army National Guard or Reserve.
