In order to lower Louisiana’s rate of new HIV infections, DeAnn Gruber, STD/HIV program director with the Louisiana Office of Public Health, joined researchers from Emory University to share new information that analyzes the rates of HIV among men who have sex with men (MSM) both nationwide and in Louisiana.
The Louisiana Department of Health & Hospitals, Office of Public Health issues this Request for Information (RFI) with the intent to determine interested and qualified vendors for providing the following activities related to the prevention of STD and HIV infections, the provision of services for HIV-infected persons, as well as clinical services and treatment for persons infected with syphilis, chlamydia and/or gonorrhea, and to monitor the STD and HIV epidemics over time.
Louisiana had the nation's fourth highest AIDS case rate in 2010, and Baton Rouge and New Orleans were first and fifth, respectively, among U.S. cities in AIDS case rates. These high rankings emphasize the necessity for Louisianians to take action by getting tested for HIV.
Take the Test! Take Control! This is the key message of this year’s National HIV Testing Day, set for June 27. The day is dedicated to encouraging people to find out their HIV status and helping those who are positive access treatment and reduce the risk of transmitting the virus to others.
