  FEMA News Release: Call Center for Relatives of the Perished

  BATON ROUGE, La.—A national toll-free number is available for families whose loved ones may have perished during Hurricane Katrina. Concerned relatives, who are unable to find a missing loved one and fear the worst, should call the Find Family National Call Center at 1-866-326-9393. This is the nationwide collection point and official coordination center for information on persons missing from the storm. Family members can phone this number 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

  21 New West Nile Cases Reported; All Were Contracted Prior to Hurricane Katrina

  Baton Rouge – The Department of Health and Hospitals announced 21 new West Nile cases today, mostly from the Shreveport/Bossier City area. However, all cases were contracted and had symptom onset prior to Hurricane Katrina.

  Health Officials Vaccinate Shelter Residents and Workers Across the State

  Baton Rouge – In addition to the damage that Katrina wreaked upon Louisiana, she also left massive numbers of people displaced from their city and their homes for what could be quite a long time. While many of these displaced residents have found friends or family members to stay with, there are still large numbers of families who are living in shelters across Louisiana.

  Baton Rouge – The Department of Health and Hospitals (DHH) requests that clergy members in Louisiana who are willing to offer their pastoral counseling services immediately contact the Find Family Call Center at 225 709-7870.

  Hurricane Rita #3 --- Health Department Reminds Public of Boil Order Precautions During Storms

  Baton Rouge --- Due to potential weather threats from Hurricane Rita, the state Department of Health and Hospitals wishes to remind citizens that if they experience water pressure loss during the storm, their system is considered to be on a blanket boil advisory until health officials notify the public that the water is safe for consumption.

  Hurricane Rita #4 - State Issues Precautionary Closure for ALL Oyster Harvest Areas

  Baton Rouge –The Department of Health and Hospitals has closed all of the oyster beds that reopened last Friday in Terrebonne Parish and all areas west to the Louisiana-Texas state line known as Shellfish Harvest Areas 15 thru 28. This closure is being taken as a precautionary measure because of Hurricane Rita.

  Baton Rouge – When evacuating for a hurricane it is very important to make personal health and safety the top priority. Health officials recommend that individuals pack as though planning for a five-day camping trip.

  Lake Charles Triage Number to Close

  Baton Rouge – Due to existing telecommunications problems that resulted from Hurricane Katrina, the Lake Charles triage number has been closed. Citizens in that area who anticipate the special needs sheltering are encouraged to call the numbers for Alexandria, Baton Rouge or Shreveport.
