Louisiana Health Access Program (LA HAP)

What is LA HAP?

The statewide LOUISIANA HEALTH ACCESS PROGRAM (LA (HAP) uses a funding source available through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to provide access to medications and health insurance for people living with HIV.  LA HAP is divided into 2 components:

  •  The LOUISIANA DRUG ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (L-DAP) covers drug costs for uninsured individuals as well as drug copays, coinsurance, & deductibles for insured individuals.
  • The HEALTH INSURANCE PROGRAM (HIP) covers health insurance premiums, copays, coinsurance, & deductibles for insured individuals.  Dental and vision plans are also eligible for coverage.  You may find out more information about HIP here.

 

Am I eligible for LA HAP?

To be eligible for LA HAP, you must meet all the following criteria:

 

  • HIV positive status
  • Documented household income at or below 500% FPL
  • Not receiving or eligible to receive full Medicaid
  • Louisiana residency

 

How do I enroll?

To enroll in LA HAP you can contact a case manager at your local community based organization (CBO), a social services staff person at your medical center, or LA HAP staff directly to complete an application. For more information and to download a copy of the LA HAP Application click here.
