This new waiver would allow Louisiana Medicaid to provide approved services such as substance use treatment, case management and a 30-day supply of all prescription medications to eligible individuals upon release from incarceration.
Louisiana Medicaid is implementing changes to the way it determines the amount Medicaid members must pay for their long-term care (LTC) healthcare services. This will include changes to timelines for reporting and calculations that may impact members and providers. Louisiana Medicaid provides coverage for LTC healthcare services for eligible members in nursing facilities and home and community-based settings. In many cases, members are required to cover a portion of the cost that Medicaid does not pay. This amount is known as patient liability income (PLI) and is owed to the provider who delivers the care.
The Louisiana Department of Health is planning to submit an application to CMS for an 1115 demonstration waiver to improve care transitions for Medicaid-eligible individuals who are incarcerated and to provide certain covered services during the 90-day pre-release period.
In May 2024, Louisiana Medicaid is restarting eligibility wage checks to verify that Medicaid members continue to meet income requirements. Wage checks will be conducted every three months. This is in addition to yearly renewals.
