The Louisiana Department of Health has announced its intent to contract with two dental administrators for Medicaid following a state bid process that began in June 2019 when the Department issued a request for proposals.

To better assist Medicaid members in completing renewal documents, as of mid-January the Louisiana Department of Health has begun including pre-filled forms in renewal letters that are sent to members each month.

The Louisiana Department of Health has been selected as one of 10 states that have been awarded the Maternal Opioid Misuse (MOM) Model grant by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Innovation Center. The grant will allow the Department and its partner hospital, Woman’s Hospital in Baton Rouge, to address gaps in the care of pregnant and postpartum Medicaid members with opioid use disorder.

The Department of Health submits a detailed monthly report to the Legislature that provides a comprehensive overview of Medicaid spending. The reports include projections for future revenues and expenditures for the given state fiscal year.

– Louisiana Medicaid will be starting a new outreach effort on Monday that will include calling Medicaid members who have not yet completed their annual renewal and are at risk of losing their healthcare coverage.

A recent audit by the Louisiana Legislative Auditor makes recommendations, and has audit findings, that are inconsistent with the managed care model of health care.

Today, the Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) announced the completion of a report by a team of researchers led by economist Dr. Jim Richardson of the Public Administration Institute at Louisiana State University (LSU) highlighting the economic impact of Medicaid expansion. The report, Medicaid Expansion and the Louisiana Economy, shows that for state fiscal year 2018, Medicaid expansion continues to provide thousands of jobs statewide. Using additional data for this latest report, expansion is currently supporting more than 14,000 jobs across the state and supporting $889 million in personal earnings.

LDH announced today that it is moving to implement emergency contracts with the five health plans that are currently under contract to serve the state’s 1.5 million Medicaid recipients.
