Pandemic Flu Response Training Set for Monroe
Monroe – The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals Office of Public Health has scheduled a regional training exercise to help the parishes in the DHH Region VIII community prepare to respond for a future influenza outbreak. These parishes include Caldwell, East and West Carroll, Franklin, Jackson, Lincoln, Madison, Morehouse, Ouachita, Richland, Tensas and Union.

"Stay Healthy Louisiana" Web site re-launched as health information hub
The United Health Foundation recently ranked Louisiana as the “least healthy” state in the nation for 2006. In an effort to help the state improve its status in 2007, and to help Louisiana residents stay better informed about their own health, the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals (DHH) and the Louisiana Public Health Institute (LPHI) have re-launched the official Stay Healthy Louisiana Web site, http://www.stayhealthyla.org/.

“Lighten Up Louisiana” Kicks Off Again in January
Lighten Up Louisiana will begin its third fitness competition Jan. 17, 2007. Sponsored by the Department of Health and Hospitals and the Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, the competition is designed to help promote physical activity and healthy eating habits.

State Updates West Nile Virus Cases
The Department of Health and Hospitals today updated the total number of West Nile virus cases for the year. Since the last report, four new cases have been identified and two prior cases have been reclassified. This brings the total number of West Nile virus cases to 194 for the current year.

Rat Poison Available to Cameron Parish Citizens
The Department of Health and Hospitals Region 5 Office of Public Health has updated the listing of locations where citizens can pick up no-cost rat poison in Cameron Parish. An overabundance of rats and human contact with rats can cause health problems, problems with contamination and damage to property.

Eloise T. Clem Clinic Will No Longer Provide WIC Services
Effective Dec. 9, 2006, the Eloise T. Clem WIC Clinic, located at 3849 North Blvd, Suite 103 in Baton Rouge, will no longer provide WIC services, the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for pregnant, breastfeeding, and postpartum women, infants and children under five years old.
