Monroe – The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals Office of Public Health has scheduled a regional training exercise to help the parishes in the DHH Region VIII community prepare to respond for a future influenza outbreak. These parishes include Caldwell, East and West Carroll, Franklin, Jackson, Lincoln, Madison, Morehouse, Ouachita, Richland, Tensas and Union.

Lighten Up Louisiana will begin its third fitness competition Jan. 17, 2007. Sponsored by the Department of Health and Hospitals and the Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, the competition is designed to help promote physical activity and healthy eating habits.
The Department of Health and Hospitals today updated the total number of West Nile virus cases for the year. Since the last report, four new cases have been identified and two prior cases have been reclassified. This brings the total number of West Nile virus cases to 194 for the current year.

Effective Dec. 9, 2006, the Eloise T. Clem WIC Clinic, located at 3849 North Blvd, Suite 103 in Baton Rouge, will no longer provide WIC services, the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for pregnant, breastfeeding, and postpartum women, infants and children under five years old.
