DHH Clarifies Refunding FEMA-Funding

Baton Rouge – Recent news accounts have reported the Department of Health and Hospitals has been overpaid by FEMA by nearly $340 million, and that DHH has returned that overpayment.
At this time, state officials, working in conjunction with coroners from local parishes have confirmed 896 deaths.
Baton Rouge --- As hotels, restaurants, grocery stores and other businesses proceed with plans to reopen in the New Orleans area, state health officials advise citizens intending to return to their homes and/or visit these establishments as well as business owners that they should do so with attention to public health.
Baton Rouge – The bodies of victims of Hurricane Katrina that have been recovered will be returned to their families as soon as they are identified, according to the release procedures developed by the State of Louisiana and the Department of Health and Hospitals.
At this time, state officials, working in conjunction with coroners from local parishes have confirmed 885 deaths.
Following Hurricane Rita, the health units in Acadia and Vermilion parishes are temporarily closed. However, health units in the following parishes remain open:
Lafayette – The Department of Health and Hospitals has partnered with various medical organizations to staff a primary health care clinic in Lafayette to treat patients from Hurricanes Rita and Katrina. The clinic is located at the Lafayette Parish Health Unit, 220 West Willow Street, Building A, Lafayette; 337-262-5616.
Baton Rouge – A media briefing with Dr. Louis Cataldie, medical incident commander for the recovery of deceased victims of Hurricane Katrina, will take place Wednesday, Sept. 28, at 11 a.m. at the State Office of Emergency Preparedness Headquarters, 7667 Independence Blvd. in Baton Rouge.
At this time, state officials, working in conjunction with coroners from local parishes have confirmed 864 deaths.
Baton Rouge – State health officials are advising residents in all areas impacted by Hurricane Rita to boil or disinfect water before drinking. This advisory is for communities in which water systems lost pressure due to electrical power outages.
Baton Rouge – Because of the continual threat of tropical storms and hurricanes, many Louisiana residents purchase individual, gas-powered generators to provide power to their homes in the event of an outage. However, every year, many die or are hospitalized because of improper and unsafe usage of generators.

Concerned relatives, who are unable to find a missing loved one and fear the worst, should call the Find Family National Call Center at 1-866-326-9393. This is the nationwide collection point and official coordination center for information on persons missing from the storm. Family members can phone this number 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
