The federal Health Resources and Services Administration recently approved 64 new health professional shortage areas in Louisiana. This designation will allow Louisiana to draw more state and federal health care resources to the state.
Recovered Bodies – At this time, state officials, working in conjunction with coroners from local parishes, have recovered 1,076 bodies. This is an increase from 1,074 recovered bodies reported on Nov. 9, 2005.

The Department of Health and Hospitals has announced the reopening of the final oyster harvest area that was closed on Tuesday, Aug. 30 because of Hurricane Katrina. This marks the reopening of all oyster harvest areas in Louisiana.

Baton Rouge –The Department of Health and Hospitals has announced the reopening of additional oyster harvest areas that were closed Sept. 23 as a precautionary measure because of Hurricane Rita. Oyster harvesting can resume in Harvest Areas 24-28, which are located from the Atchafalaya River west to Fresh Water Bayou, Vermilion Parish, half an hour before sunrise on Wednesday, Oct. 26.
